Principal's Message

Greetings from Tilak High School.

It is with great pleasure and humility that I look forward to serving each one of you this year. I hope to convey the passion and enthusiasm that both staff and students bring to all that they do here, making our school a wonderful place to learn. Our school is renowned for providing an outstanding holistic education and we strongly focus on academic progress and achievement. We wish to see a significant majority of our students continue their education at tertiary institutions.

At Tilak High School, our students work in an environment where they are motivated, challenged and have their expectations raised to achieve set targets and goals. This was evidenced in our 2017 results, and I am proud to say

that our students have done exceptionally well. Such success is a result of the partnership among the School, our students and their parents/guardians. I acknowledge the immediate former Principal – Mr Sashi Bhupendra Singh for his exemplary leadership during his term.

As we conclude term 2 and approach a very crucial period in the childrens’ preparation for examinations this year, I humbly seek your wisdom and support in their educational progress. Research over the past decades have demonstrated that parental engagement significantly impacts the academic outcomes - social and emotional wellbeing of the child. Therefore, a student whose family provides supportive and stimulating home environment tends to do much better and enjoys greater academic success compared to a child who lacks support and interest from close family members. Education in the current era demands parents to work together with other stakeholders in order to achieve desired outcomes.

Students nowadays are establishing patterns of behaviour that is affecting their overall performance at school. These children are engaging in risky behaviour for instance: failing to attend school regularly, late arrival to school and classes, truancy, disruptive behaviour in class, bullying, consumption of alcohol/kava/tobacco/drugs, glue sniffing, engaging in sexual activities, teenage pregnancies, graffiti, vandalism, eroding moral values and showing disrespect to parents/teachers/elders.

The MOEHA emphasises that schools need to recognise the primary role of the parents/guardians in education and invite them to work in partnership with teachers. Of all the factors affecting a child’s education, the home influence in terms of parental support and intervention, ranks amongst the highest.

Now more than ever, we must work together by establishing a strong and enduring partnership by enhancing protective factors in the lives of children which will help them avoid getting into risky behaviour, detrimental to their educational progress, personal and mental health. My humble plea is to be proactive rather than being reactive.

I warmly welcome you to visit us to discus issues, educate and mould your most precious gift.... your child!

We know how important your children are so let’s do all that we can, to nurture them in a creative and artistic environment where the sky is not the limit.

Best wishes,

Mr. Vinod Kumar Sharan
